Agenda Item: MS Farm Bureau Staff Realignment

Discussion: In recent days the MS Farm Bureau Federation has realigned its staff to create a more efficient and effective organization. One major change due to the reorganization is the formation of an Executive Management Team of five people. Mr. Larry Brewer will serve as the Regional Manager Coordinator. Larry is located in room 207 of the Bost Building.

Action: None

Agenda Item: Annual Faculty Review Forms

Discussion: The Annual Faculty Review Form that was distributed by Dr. Rabideau on October 18 was reviewed by the deans/directors. Most of the units in the division will use this form for their evaluations. The form will be distributed by Dr. Vance Watson in early November. Department heads, research and extension center heads should have the evaluation process and forms signed no later than March 1, 2005.

Action: Dr. Vance Watson's office will distribute the division's forms and the signature sheet for joint review of off-campus faculty in early November.

Agenda Item: 2004 Alumni Fellows

Discussion: The publication on the 2004 Alumni Fellows was distributed and reviewed. The Alumni Fellows for the division for 2004 are as follows:

  • CALS: Dr. Karen S. Kubena, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Texas A&M
  • CFR: Willie H. "Bill" Tomlinson, Jr. president of Wildlife Technical Services Inc. of Vicksburg
  • CVM: Dr. Barbara Henning Masters, Acting Administrator for Food Safety and Inspection Service, USDA.

The Fellows will participate in numerous activities on campus on November 11 and 12.

Action: At 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 12 the division's three Alumni Fellows will participate in the forum in 205 Bost Building. Deans/directors and associates/assistants are encouraged to attend.

Agenda Item: Legislative Theme

Discussion: The theme "Value Added" was discussed and adapted for the 2005 Legislative Session. All units believe they can package their 2005 requests using this general theme and move forward with a unified front. The "Value Added" theme applies appropriately to farm and forestry resources and to the human resources that division employees work with. In all of our programs and activities, we strive to add value to those resources.

Action: None

Agenda Item: Research and Extension Associate Pay Structure

Discussion: At the current time, all units in the division and in the division of research apply uniform salary increases for promotions in the research and extension associate categories. In the part, promotions in the extension agent category were accompanied with salary increases that were generally comparable to increases of our research/extension associates. The additions for extension agents were based on the policy that specifies those increases at 70% of the increase applied in the faculty category. When the increases applicable for the faculty category were raised in Spring 2004, it resulted in inequities for some MSU-ES employees. Dr. Joe McGilberry and his staff are reviewing this situation prior to the promotion process in early 2005.

Action: None

Agenda Item: CSREES Hall of Fame

Discussion: Dr. Rodney Foil, Vice President Emeritus, was among ten honored for the CSREES Inaugural Hall of Fame. Dr. Foil's dedicated service to MSU, the state, region and notion from 1969 to 1999 helped justify this significant recognition. If you see Dr. Foil, please congratulate him on this very important award.
