Agenda Item: LBO Hearings

Discussion: The FY-2006 budget request and justifications will be presented at the DAFVM Legislative Budget Committee Hearings, scheduled for September 22 at 3:45 p.m. The division needs to continue to speak as a single voice to the committee and Legislature. We also need to broaden our legislative base as suggested by John Tomlinson, who will work on this as well as enlisting support from farm groups throughout the state to help us present our case to the Legislature. Our message to the Legislature during the current year will essentially center on five points. They are 1) the need to stop the erosion of our budgets, 2) for the built-ins that have been requested, 3) the contingency funds, 4) no unfunded mandates and 5) the need for raises that will be recommended during the 2005 session.

Action: Each of the separately budgeted units need to send Dr. Watson a short summary of their "show & tell" items for the hearing as soon as possible and have 20 copies of their one-pager available for distribution at the hearing.

Agenda Item: CFR 50th Anniversary

Discussion: The College of Forest Resources will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Friday, September 24. The celebration will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Franklin Center followed by a lunch at 11:30 a.m. Following lunch displays will be available for viewing. Invitations will be distributed to designated personnel in the division.

Action: For those receiving invitations, please, respond by the appropriate date.

Agenda Item: CVM Update

Discussion: Gregg Boring is currently serving as the Interim Dean of CVM. The search for the new Dean will begin in the next 3-4 weeks. Classes have begun and a record high of 72 new students are enrolled in this year's class. The class is approximately 60% female and there are slightly more in-state students verses out-of-state.

Action: None

Agenda Item: MSU-ES Annual Conference

Discussion: The MSU-ES Annual Conference has been set for November 11&12 at MSU. Chairpersons of the conference are Drs. Virgil Culver and Will McCarty. The program is currently being developed.

Action: None

Agenda Item: Bureau of Buildings Material

Discussion: The Bureau of Buildings recently requested an update and some additional information on our FY-2006 requests. Our top three priorities for preplanning, capital improvements and repair and renovation are the same as submitted in May 2004. The additional information requested included an estimated beginning date and completion date on each project, the operating impact on personnel, operation and maintenance and energy, the source of funds, and the annual debt service. The Bureau of Buildings did provide general guidelines for the new information requested.

Action: Deans/directors should review the recent submission to the Bureau of Buildings and suggest changes as appropriate. This should be done prior to the LBO hearing on September 22.
