Minutes
April 25, 2005

ATTENDING:

Gregg Boring
Joe McGilberry
Lynn Reinschmiedt
Doug Richards
Vance Watson
Bob Williams

Agenda Item:  New Faculty Hires

Discussion:  Dr. Boring wanted the deans/directors to be aware of the situation of hiring clinical faculty who have tenure at their current veterinary college.  This can present problems for us particularly if that faculty member has a strong desire to remain tenured.  Several colleges are also looking at handling tenure a little differently which, might put CVM at a slight disadvantage.

Action:  None

Agenda Item:  Bureau of Buildings Report

Discussion: It is time to submit our annual buildings request to the Bureau of Buildings and IHL.  Recent information received from David Anderson, Director of the BOB, indicates that our materials must be submitted to the BOB no latter than June 1.  These reports will then be considered in the 2006 Legislative Session for possible funding in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2006.

Action:  The deans/directors named a committee of six to assist in this process.  They are as follows:

  • Virgil Culver, MSUES
  • David Howell, MAFES
  • Dick Johnston, CVM
  • Reuben Moore, MAFES
  • Ian Munn, CFR, FWRC
  • Bob Williams, VP Office/Chair

Input from faculty and staff in the division should be sent to your unit’s representative as quickly as possible.

Agenda Item:  Dean Searches

Discussion:  In the CFR/FWRC deans search, three applicants have been invited to visit campus and participate in the on-campus process.  These candidates are Steve Bullard, University of Kentucky; Thomas McLain, Oregon State University; and George Hopper, University of Tennessee.   After feedback information is received from all appropriate individuals participating in the interviews, a recommendation should be made within ten days.

The process to select a new dean for CVM is proceeding. Applications are being received and reviewed by the search and screening committee.  At this point in time, no on-campus visits have been scheduled.

Action:  None
