Agenda Item: Computer Security
Discussion: Mike Rackley, Head of Information Technology Service (ITS) gave a summary of the issues surrounding the December 2006 computer breech and presented an information security update, which included:
- threats to the MSU campus network
- our vulnerabilities
- recent accomplishments
- proposed information on security policy
- information security programs proposed by the policy
- MSU’s incident response plan
- IT disaster recovery plan
- proposed committee for the security of protected information
Mike also indicated that of MSU’s 129 potential web servers ITS and Computer Application Services maintains very few of them. Dan Brook indicated the division was continuing to monitor servers within the division.
Action: Deans/directors should review the computer security measures that are in place in their units and enhance the measures as needed. This process is continuously evolving and should receive consistent attention by all employees.
Agenda Item: Legislative Testimony
Discussion: The separately budgeted units within the Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine will have legislative testimony Thursday, January 25, 2007. Packets of support materials are being put together for distribution.
Action: Review program needs impacts and accomplishments.
Agenda Item: MAFES Statistician
Discussion: Dr. Patrick Gerard has indicated his intent to leave MSU around the end of the semester for a new position at Clemson University. Dr. Gerard has been instrumental in providing students and researchers with statistical design and analysis guidance. This position is important to the overall division. The discussion centered on the possibility of developing a position that would serve the entire division.
Action: Deans/directors were asked to consider the needs of their individual units and position qualification.
Agenda Item: Reclassifications
Discussion: The window of time for assessments for purposes of reclassification will begin immediately and run through March 15, 2007. These adjustments will become effective July 1, 2007. Adjustments should be recommended and endorsed by the responsible administrator through the appropriate administrative channels. Action: Requests must be received in the vice president’s office no later than March 8, 2007.
Agenda Item: Alumnus of the Year
Colleges are hosting their alumnus of the year Friday, January 26, 2007. The university wide reception will be held at the Hunter Henry Center at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner following at 6:30.
