Agenda Item: General Fund Transfer, August 2007

Discussion: Transfers by the State Tax Commission to the General Fund were $326.9 million, $9.0 million below the estimate. Total transfers for FY08 are now $16.3 million below the estimate. The only major tax categories that are running above a year earlier are individual income tax collections, gaming fees and taxes. We will continue to monitor the monthly collections and transfer, because of their impact on division appropriations.

Agenda Item: 2008 Legislative Session

Discussion: Dr. Watson will present information for the division at the legislative budget hearing on September 25 in Jackson. As in the past, we will use one-pagers from each of the separately budgeted units to present our requests. In addition to the requests, having several major success stories would be useful. As we make our requests this year, we will need to be aware of the possibilities that collections may be below the estimate, and the increase in appropriations for FY09 may be substantially below FY08.

Action: Please share your one-pagers with the vice president’s office as soon as they are developed, and send us your comments about one or more major success stories from your unit as soon as possible.

Agenda Item: Policies

Discussion: Dr. Mixon distributed several new policies for revision and use. They are as follows:

  • Policy and Procedures Statement on Research and Extension Professional Staff
  • Operating Policy and Procedures: Research, Extension and Clinical Faculty Positions
  • Operating Policy and Procedures: Electronically Stored Information (ESI) and Compliance with Federal Court Rules in Federal Lawsuits (first reading)
  • Policy and Procedure for Promotion of Other Professional (Support/Services): Rescinded

Action: After reviewing the Policy and Procedure for Electronically Stored Information, please submit any suggestions or changes to Dr. Mixon.
