Standing Committee Reports:

Office of the Vice-President: Report from Dr. Bohach

Dr. Bohach met with the DAFVM Senate regarding the publication incentive request. The Vice-President’s office will support an award, wants it to be the DAFVM Senate award. He also wants a sub-committee of the DAFVM Senate to develop the criteria for the award and meet with Dr. Herndon to work on the details. The committee should make clear distinction between peer-reviewed and refereed publications. The award would come from discretionary funds and may be used for program or research support, GA support, or possible cash award. A committee needs to be form soon, as Dr. Bohach would like to have this award available beginning in Fall 2015.

Dr. Bohach is continuing to work on tenure eligibility for Extension, MAFES, FWRC, and Research faculty.

Building Projects:

  • Meat Science and Muscle Bio Lab- construction will begin sometime this year.
  • Wise Center- The instruction building at the Wise Center will be finished by end of the year, perhaps fall semester but not definite.
  • Poultry Science/Animal Dairy Science-12.5 million should be allocated this year. Will need 10-12 million more to finalize both projects.

Dr. Bohach requested an 8% increase from the legislature. He has received positive feedback.

Children on Campus Policy- In a recent Department Head meeting, concern was expressed regarding children on campus for a variety of reasons (afterschool waiting on parents, summer camps, etc.). A committee is being formed to address the concern and develop a policy regarding children on campus.

Suggestion/Recommendation: Dr. Bohach suggested the DAFVM Senate consider moving the monthly meeting to different places on campus to provide faculty with exposure to other buildings or programs. Staff council uses a similar model and it seems to work well.

Unfinished Old Business: Elections will need be conducted by the end of the semester. Senators that will roll off need to request nominations from their department to be on the ballot in April or early May. Senate Chair or Vice-Chair will send an email to Senators that will be rolling off.

Next DAFVM Senate meeting will be April 9 @1:30

Moved to adjourn at 2:10, all approved.
