Extension Program Assistant
MSU Extension Service
Harrison County

Years in position: 1.5
Years at MSU: 1.5

Brianna Andrews’s motto is “there is never a dull moment” while she is an Extension program assistant in the Coastal Marine Extension Program. Her responsibilities range from data analysis to educating the public on major environmental concerns.

“My favorite memory is going out to Barrier Islands to look for native clams,” Brianna said. “We were unsuccessful in our initial search area but found several in an area we least expected. I remember jumping into the water, barely able to contain my excitement that there was tangible evidence clams were once here.”

When she graduated, Brianna initially planned on a career in zoology. However, after she spent a summer interning at the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, she fell in love with educating the public about the importance of conservation. She also found research interesting.

Brianna advised students interested in this career to get as much experience as they can, whether by volunteering or interning

“You won’t know if it is the right fit for you until you fully immerse yourself,” Brianna said.

Brianna enjoys researching and understanding animal communication. She finds the animals’ variety of different communication methods absolutely fascinating.
“What I really enjoy about working at Extension is the lack of confinement to an office and the ability to go into the field for research,” Brianna said.
