MSU Starkville Campus

Years in Position: 14 years
Years at MSU: 23 years

Norma Hendrix loves her job.

As a custodian at the College of Veterinary Medicine, she makes sure employees there have a clean, comfortable working environment.

“I love my job and coming in to work,” she said. “I enjoy seeing everyone. I like communicating with people.”

She is responsible for making sure all the building’s areas are clean, including bathrooms, offices, and common spaces.

“Everyone tells me what a good job I do, and they thank me for it,” she said.

Attitude is everything, Hendrix said.

“You have to have a good personality and know how to deal with people in this job,” she said. “Things aren’t always great every day, but you never let anyone know it. You just keep smiling.”

Before moving into the CVM position, Hendrix spent nine years cooking at Perry Cafeteria.

“I loved that, too,” she said. “I love to cook, and that’s what I did there.”

Hendrix still enjoys cooking and cooks a lot at home and sometimes at work.

“When we have get-togethers here, I’ll cook for them,” she said.

She has five sons, 28 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. All her grandchildren are girls except for seven.

“When I tell people that, they can’t believe it,” she said. “I have a very big family.”
