Client Accounts Assistant
College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health Center
Years in Position/Service to MSU: 4

Behind the scenes at the Mississippi State University Animal Health Center, Alyson Thompson ensures that clinical services for small animals, large animals, and specialty care are accurately documented and billed.

As a Client Accounts Assistant, she audits charges so the hospital can focus on providing high-quality patient care. Although her work doesn’t place her directly in exam rooms, Thompson sees the impact of MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine every day through the gratitude of clients. One of her favorite parts of the job is hearing updates from pet owners long after a visit.

“I know we’ve done our job to the fullest when owners keep us in the loop like we’re part of the family,” she said.

Thompson also enjoys watching animals that come through the hospital heal, grow, and return home as their happiest, healthiest selves. That commitment doesn’t pause for holidays. The Animal Health Center at MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine remains open year-round, and Thompson is proud to support clients during times when others may be off.

“Working the holidays can seem disheartening, but being able to support our community members and their beloved animals is the best reward,” she said.

Thompson’s passion for service was shaped early on at her grandfather’s dairy farm in Starkville. Along with caring for his cows and crops, he ran his own milk route—delivering food and milk to anyone in need, especially the elderly.

“He was a very loved man,” Thompson said.

Watching his dedication to hard work and generosity instilled in her a deep appreciation for community service—values she carries with her each day.
