Ashleigh Dickerson
ICU Technician Trainee
CVM Clinical Sciences Department
Time in Position/Service to MSU: 1 year
Ashleigh Dickerson has always had a passion for working with animals. Her first job at an animal shelter, where she cared for sick animals, only strengthened her desire to help those who couldn't speak for themselves. Today, she gets to do that every day as an Intensive Care Unit Technician Trainee at Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dickerson helps care for some of the hospital's most critical patients, from the moment they arrive through their recovery. Her responsibilities include triaging incoming patients, checking vital signs, establishing IV access and collecting blood samples for testing. She also provides ongoing care for animals hospitalized in the ICU.
For Dickerson, the best part of the job is seeing those patients get better.
“The most rewarding part of my job is caring for critically ill patients and watching them recover and return home to their families,” Dickerson said. “It is incredibly special to know that I played a role in their journey to healing and recovery.”
That opportunity to make a difference in an animal's life is what keeps her passionate about the work. Whether helping a patient through an emergency or providing care during a hospital stay, Dickerson knows that every part of the process matters.
Away from the hospital, she enjoys diamond painting and reading. She also makes time to visit friends and family whenever she can.
