For more than 35 years, Dr. Pauline Prince has devoted her career to supporting the mental health and well-being of others. Today, she continues that work at Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, where she provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, wellness programming and consultation services. She also mentors future psychologists through the MSU Department of Psychology.

Prince says the most rewarding part of her job is working alongside students, veterinarians, faculty and staff who are committed to improving mental health and wellness.

"I enjoy working collaboratively with talented people who care deeply about improving mental health and wellness," Prince said. "The veterinary medical community is an amazing place for psychologists to practice."

During her time at Mississippi State, Prince has helped expand mental health and wellness resources across the College of Veterinary Medicine. Working with faculty members, including Dr. Emily Freeman and Ms. Sara Bishop, she helped establish the Maggie Bishop Freeman Wellness Initiatives. She has also worked with industry partners, including Purina and Boehringer Ingelheim, to expand wellness resources and support for the College of Veterinary Medicine community.

Even after decades in the profession, Prince says she continues to find inspiration in the work taking place at the College of Veterinary Medicine.

"I never cease to be amazed by the animals that are seen here and the quality of care they receive," she said.

Prince chose psychology because she believes her greatest strengths are best used in service to others.

"I've been blessed with many gifts, and the best way I know to use them is by helping others," Prince said. "Learning should be fun, and life was meant to be lived."

Mississippi State has also played a significant role in Prince's life beyond her career. She met her husband, Ron, during their first week on campus in 1975, and the couple will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this August. Together they have raised three children, two of whom are Mississippi State graduates, and are proud grandparents of eight future Bulldogs. Prince enjoys spending time with her family and cheering on the Bulldogs, especially the MSU softball team.
