Growing up on his family's farm, agriculture was more than a way of life for Heath Steede—it laid the groundwork for a career built on helping others.
Today, as the Mississippi State University Extension Agent and County Coordinator in George County, Steede works with producers, homeowners and community members to solve problems and connect them with the research-based resources they need. From answering questions about agriculture to helping residents tackle everyday challenges, no two days are alike.

"The best part of my job is getting to help the people of George County," Steede said.

His path to Extension started long before he graduated from Mississippi State. While still in high school, Steede scouted cotton for local producers alongside his agriculture teacher, Marshall Stevens. At Mississippi State, he worked as a student assistant for cotton entomologist Dr. Blake Layton before completing a summer internship with Extension in George County under the guidance of his brother, Mike Steede, who was serving as county agent at the time. Those experiences confirmed he had found the career he wanted.

"Working with Extension is a new experience almost every day,” Steede said. “It's rewarding to do what you love while helping people solve problems along the way."
