Happy and Healthy—the two go hand-in-hand for Anne Marie Gregory, and she’s on a mission to help others adopt the concept. As a registered dietitian and a community wellness planner, Gregory’s work is part of the Mississippi State University Extension “HappyHealthy” initiative.

Research indicates that children raised on a healthy diet are more likely to adopt healthy eating habits as they mature,” said Gregory. “We only get one body and one life. I teach people that they can make healthy choices and also have fun in the process.”

Gregory provides services in Leflore County, delivering healthy meal planning guidance, hosting cooking classes, and educating students on nutrition through school visits. While her services are open to all, she focuses on individuals receiving SNAP benefits.

“I love working in the public schools and the sweet children I teach. People get excited about the food they eat! I enjoy hosting conversations about food, especially when someone shares how food intersects with their culture,” said Gregory.

Some may consider Gregory a “foodie.” She is passionate about good food and trying new recipes.

“I also love learning about food from others. I love cooking, eating, and all things related to wellness. I would love for everyone to have environments and habits that serve them well,” said Gregory.

A native of Oregon, Gregory has embraced becoming a Southerner and lives in Greenwood, MS, with her husband and their two sons, ages four and two.

“My husband and I are committed to making our small Mississippi Delta town a better place for everyone who lives here,” said Gregory.

The HappyHealthy initiative is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the Mississippi Department of Human Services. Healthy recipes with instructional videos are available at happyhealthy.extension.msstate.edu.
